Today's presentation by Andrew Blauvelt from the Aesthetics + Computation Group was a fascinating exploration of computational design practices. Blauvelt referenced John Maeda's seminal work "Design by Numbers," highlighting the intersection of aesthetics and computation in contemporary design. One standout project discussed was EmojiDraw (2021) on Platform-L
Throughout the presentations, one recurring theme that resonated with me was the idea of taking a simple input and analyzing it in different ways. Tilo Krueger's portfolio exemplified this approach, demonstrating how seemingly ordinary subjects could be explored from various perspectives to yield rich and nuanced insights. This takeaway reminded me of the importance of curiosity and experimentation in the creative process, encouraging me to look beyond the surface and explore the deeper layers of meaning in my own work.
Following the presentations, I had the opportunity to discuss potential directions for my upcoming projects with Kyuha. Inquiring about the integration of p5.speech or similar features with Processing, Kyuha suggested that it might be easier to implement such features using p5.js. This insight prompted me to reconsider my approach and explore the possibilities offered by p5.js for my prototypes. By leveraging the capabilities of p5.js, I hope to streamline the development process and unlock new avenues for interaction and engagement in my projects.
